Sarah has 20 years experience of teaching millinery from beginner to advanced levels and was named Heritage Craft’s Trainer of the Year 2025. She is currently a lead tutor on The CHANEL and Kings Foundation Metiers d’Art Millinery Fellowship. She was previously course director of the renowned HNC in Millinery at Kensington & Chelsea/Morley College, and has taught short courses at West Dean College, New Brewery Arts, London Hat Week, and arts organisations across the UK. She privately tutors students in her Warwickshire studio.

In 2010, Sarah published Hats! Making Classic Hats and Headpieces in Fabric, Felt and Straw. The book has been published in the UK, USA, France and Spain, and is widely used as a teaching tool for millinery courses.

Sarah teaches individuals and small groups of up to 4 people in her spacious studio in Warmington, a beautiful Warwickshire village on the edge of the Cotswolds. The studio is a large space with good natural light, equipped with steamers, hotplates, kitchen, irons, large stock of wooden blocks, and display heads.

Sarah will design bespoke sessions just for you, catering for your interests and skills:

  • Beginners millinery – blocking, assembling and trimming a felt or straw hat

  • Intermediate skills – working with more complicated shapes, materials and techniques

  • Advanced – specific technique workshops for advanced students or professionals looking to update their skills.

  • Specific sessions on: dyeing, hand shaping, working with wire, couture finish, design skills and collection planning

  • Course or work placement preparation – Sarah can work with you one-to-one to fine tune design and technical skills which will prepare you for a specific course or work placement.
